Full Name: Bruce Wayne
Alias: The Batman, the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader et. Al.
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Occupation: Trust-fund baby/vigilante
Affiliations: (formerly) Commissioner Gordon; (current) Alfred Pennyworth
Personality:
The Batman does not compromise in his unending war against the criminal element. He is methodical and thorough using every advantage he can from his vast wealth to the element of fear and surprise to terrify his opponents into submission. This is from his long held belief that at the core, a criminal whether a petty thug to a major player in the underworld is entirely motivated by cowardice. They take from those weaker than themselves rather than fight something stronger. He is that stronger opponent.
Batman feels that Bruce Wayne is his secret identity, his mask, not the other way around. Bruce is yet another illusion, the billionaire playboy, the lay about who, given his vacant, self-absorbed nature could not possibly be the Dark Knight. Given this, Bruce would rather spend his days taking down drug dealers and rapists rather than sit in on board meetings or maintain anything resembling a social life. The only reason he even bothers is to maintain the mask.
Unique Traits/Skills:
The Batman has two large advantages over the scum he fights day in and day out. The first is his personal fortune with which he outfits himself with the latest in crime fighting technology. Secondly, he has spent most of his formative years fighting against the evils of the world. He is hardened both in mind and body. He needs to be to fight the type of men (and women) he does. Finally, the World’s Greatest Detective is just that. He is a thorough investigator who uses his intelligence and physical intimidation to bring down the parasites in his city.
Appearance: Bruce is a tall and handsome man in his mid-thirties. He has short-cut brown hair and brown eyes. Sometimes Bruce manages to grow out a 5 o’ clock shadow after burning the candle at both ends either through jet setting or crime fighting. Given his play boy image, Bruce always appears in impeccably tailored suits and usually has a woman on each shoulder.
Celebrity name: Christian Bale
History:
The Batman’s history begins and as such, Bruce Wayne’s history ends with the death of his parents when he was a small child. Gunned down in the prime of life, their death signaled the death of Bruce as well. Greatly affected by the incident, Bruce was left in the care of the man who would become his closest confidant, Alfred Pennyworth. When he came of age, Bruce decided to study to know what would cause a man to gun down his parents in a dark alley way for nothing more than a handful of jewels and a wallet. As such he wandered the globe, integrating himself into the criminal element. It was during this period that he came to know Ra’s Al Ghul and his League of Shadows who helped him to define his purpose. He would become the nightmare, the terror, the Dark Knight. Parting with Ra’s after he was ordered to kill an unarmed man, Bruce returned to Gotham destroying Ra’s headquarters in the process.
Upon returning to Gotham and Wayne manor, Bruce slowly formed the Batman mantle as a way to clean up the streets which had become infested with criminals. One of his first major adversaries was Dr. Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow, the lead psychologist at Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane and an expert in fear. He used this expertise for his own illicit ends, experimenting on his own patients and threaten the city with madness and chaos by releasing a fear toxin into the water supply. Eventually, the Batman learned that the Scarecrow’s plan was actually that of the League of Shadows who were planning to cause Gotham to self-destruct. Thankfully this plan was foiled by the Batman and his new-found ally, Lt. Jim Gordon, the only good man in the entirety of the Gotham police force.
His next major obstacle, would come from the madman know as the Joker. The Joker used the Batman’s secrecy as a weapon against him, threatening the citizens of Gotham until the Batman was unmasked. His appearance came ironically, right as things started looking up for Gotham and her protector. It got a new district attorney, Harvey Dent after the old one was murdered by gangsters. He and Jim Gordon were the two most righteous men in the city, paragons of what the city could be. Rachael Dawes, an old childhood friend and former love interest who couldn’t deal with Bruce’s dual-life found happiness with Dent. Meanwhile, Gordon’s aggressive stance against them had the mob on the ropes.
Then came the clown. Using Rachael and Dent as pawns, the Joker forced Batman and his allies into a no-win situation. Save the life of Rachael Dawes thereby killing Dent or save Harvey as opposed to Rachael. In the end, Rachael died in an explosion caused by the Joker which also left Dent scarred both physically and emotionally. Decrying false hope, Dent became the criminal Two-Face who, but for the flip of a coin, enacted bloody vengeance on criminals and corrupt cops alike. Eventually with the coordinated effort of the now Commissioner Gordon and the Batman, the Joker was brought to justice but not without the death of Dent. The possibly of having the former White Knight of Gotham be revealed as a cop-killer, Batman took the blame for Dent’s actions to save the city from hopelessness.
Sample Post:
Bruce Wayne was in the Batcave, sitting in a chair stitching up his right bicep. He was more or less in full uniform, given that he had just recently returned from an outing fighting a man who thought himself to be a crocodile. His cape was allowed to drap over the back of his chair and his cowl was removed. As the thread went in and out of his forearm, Alfred came down to visit with his master with a bowl of Vichyssoise.
“Mauled by dogs again, sir?”, asked the butler, dryly.
“No, Alfred this time it was a man: a mob enforcer. He called himself the Killer Croc. Big man. He had scale tattoos all over his body and his teeth were filed into points.” As the Batman says this, he indicates the filing with his fingers moved into a “V”.
“Filed? Do you suppose he thinks he’s actually a-”
Batman shook his head in the negative, “No. He‘s not delusional as far as I can tell. It‘s for intimidation. That, and it hurts like Hell when he bites. Anyways, that’s not the problem. The problem is escalation. This Killer Croc is the first. The Joker has escaped by Arkham, so he‘s number two, and finally there‘s a man I have yet to see personally calling himself, ‘Scarface’. So we have a possible turf war between the Croc and Scarface with the Joker running around trying to mop up any old enemies left alive from his mob days. Do I have plans tonight, Alfred?”
“You do sir, a date with a gorgeous young woman named Susan Kwan.”
“Cancel it. It‘s going to be a long night.”, with this, the Batman puts his cowl back on after downing the cold potato soup and heads back out to his city.
